Ice Ice Baby...

And no, I'm not talking about the song. I am talking about this....

This is a burning bush, but today it wasn't so hot!! :)))))
This Arborvitae bush was bent over in 3 different directions.
Poor little birds had to use ice picks to get to their suet. But they were trying, I'm sure it was hard as a rock.
We were supposed to get rain, then as the front moved North it turned into freezing rain (again). Now we are supposed to get snow. 1-3" on Thursday. I never trust those amount numbers. Sometimes when they predict them we get twice as much. I have been amused at how every blog has something to do with the weather. Whether it is snow, wind, rain, cold, or sleet, but have not heard anyone complain about the warm temps and nice sunshine. We won't be either when we finally get there. People keep saying "can't wait for Spring", "where is summer", or "this winter has been so long." That is what makes ours easier to bear, reading that others are suffering too.

Look at my poor White Pine tree. But by laying down on the ground at least the limbs don't break off.
Gypsy, see my clothes line? Won't be hanging clothes out any time soon.
We had to go to town today to pick up a few items. We saw many limbs down, some of them were large, no trees, only limbs. We had a lot of little limbs down but no big ones. It was dangerous out there taking pictures, the ice was blowing off the limbs, larger than sleet. It didn't really hurt when it hit you just freaky.

It amazes me that these bushes can bend so severely and then straighten up with no damage.
This beautiful purple is the color of the Lilacs that are on this tree every year. And they smell soooo good!
Well did I make any of you cold with this post? No, yes, well I was cold the wind was terrible this morning when we went to town. One thing about winter that is inevitable every year... it makes you appreciate Spring that much more when it arrives.  Best wishes from cold, wet, miserable, Indiana residents.

  1. The ice can be really beautiful until you have to live with it for a while. Can you imagine in the old days when there wasn't much alterntive to drying clothes, winter and summer?

    1. I know they used to "freeze" dry them. Brought in stiff as a board. I am glad not to have to do that.
And yes, you are right it can be pretty, when just looking at it.

  2. Your pictures are pretty to look at but I am so glad to be in sunny San Diego. My old body just doesn't do so good in the cold temps anymore! What do Effie and Cooper think of the ice and snow?

    1. I know my body doesn't like the cold any longer, thinning blood I guess. Effie hates it. Walks on it like it hurts her feet, Cooper (all boy) loves it. Go back to Dec and read Dachshund and Great Dane play tag, and you will see what he does in it. It just plows through it with those little stubby legs, so funny!

  6. I know you have had the bad weather too. I just laughed tonight I think every blog I clicked on had something to complain about where the weather was concerned. Bad all over. Well we are headed into March so that means Spring is not far off. I hope??

  7. I'm sorry for you and all birds and other animals. At least you have a nice warm house to live in. I always wonder why all the birds don't migrate south.

We left the midwest for Florida in 1974, and never once missed it. I hope spring comes soon!

    1. You would think they would but I guess Mother Nature only put that instinct into some of them. You were smart, sometimes I wonder why we have stayed here, especially after the winter I fell and broke my shoulder, then I really hated it!! Thanks me too.

  8. Yes I feel sorry too for the animals and birds but somehow they are equipped to take cover although I'm sure there are some that don't make it and become food for the other. Such is nature.
We are having a freezing rain and snow mixed storm here today in Ottawa. I'm so glad that my daughter got to deliver her baby yesterday.

Ice on trees looks pretty but is damaging too.
Hang in there, Spring is just waiting by the corner.
    Stay warn and safe.

    1. The Doves are the ones I feel sorry for, you can tell they can't take the cold like some of the others. So you are experiencing all the bad weather too. I'm glad you have a nice warm grand son to cuddle up to.
Yes, ice is the most damaging Mother Nature phenomenon.
