Look What Came in the Mail Today??

I'll get to our weather in a minute. Art skated out and got the mail today and came in with some exciting news.  I don't know if any of you heard this but Barney, George and Laura Bush's dog passed away on Feb 3rd. He was sooooo cute. The girls and I loved to watch Christmas at the White House every year just to see Barney. Miss Beasley, his play mate was cute too. I was so sad to hear that he had died.  He was only twelve but had been battling Lymphoma and he couldn't fight it any longer. I don't care if you are a King, Queen, President, Hobo or one of us, when you loose a pet it hurts. And those that love dogs and have been through this know what you are going through. So I sent them a pet sympathy card. I never expected any kind of reply to a card but this came today. Art comes in and says, "got a card from George W Bush." like that happens all the time here.  I was a little more excited, having never received anything from a President before.

Now I'm sure they still have staff that handles all their mail, so I don't expect this was addressed by Laura. But I am sure they saw the card.

I saw where they had a portrait done of him and notice the number 43 I thought it was because he was the 43rd President. Well come to find out it is because George W Bush painted it himself. Since the Presidency he has been doing portraits of dogs and people and he signs them 43. Isn't that cool??

Don't really see how you get George out of that but I guess signing your name as much as a President does it isn't that neat. Of course I know this is a stamp and he didn't sign everything.  Not like receiving it from them personally but I was excited.

The weather ended up not being "quite" as bad as we had originally feared. The drive way was a sheet of ice this am but we didn't loose power. They flickered a couple of times last night and I thought, "well here we go" but they didn't go off. They said on the news this morning that there were mutiple accidents, but none seemed serious. I know there were numerous flights canceled at the airport, but since we weren't going anywhere, it didn't bother us.  We stayed put! Not going to risk falling and ruining our future plans.
Thank for all the comments on the weather, and I want to welcome the new followers to the blog. Hope you all enjoy our adventures, and I would love to hear from you!!

Best wishes to all from Indiana

  1. It was real nice of you to send a sympathy card for the loss of their dog and I'm glad that you got a thank you card from them.

I hope that your weather warms up and melt all that ice. Spring is just around the corner. Hang in there.

    1. I keep pet sympathy cards on hand to send to friends that have lost their dear pet. One time someone did it for us and I saw how much it meant and I decided to do the same thing. No matter who it is.

  2. Oh my....how sweet of you and the Bush's. Would you consider framing it? I sure would just so nothing could damage it.

So glad your weather didn't get too bad. Hope you have sunny days ahead!

    1. Thanks Gypsy, I didn't send them a card in hopes of getting something, I just felt bad for them. And knew that even of their fame and stature they would be hurting. It was a win win for everyone, they lifted my spirits too.

    1. I had tears in my eyes when I heard he had died. He was 12 but a small breed he could have had more years.
      I appreciate your comment.

  5. I remember as a boy writing a letter to President Eisenhower and low and behold a few weeks later I received a reply which looked like it had actually been signed. My Grandfather who was a lifelong vote the straight democrat ticket, only comment was. "You know only the truly great men answer letters".I remembered that all my life.Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

    1. That is neat. I don't know it just kind of gives you a chill to see a Presidents name on the return address spot. I will definitely keep it, something to pass on to my grandchildren.

    1. Yes, he was. I loved watching him chase the red Christmas balls. I have always thought it so neat that the White House has been home to many pets in the years past. And how they are always so popular!

  8. What a great idea! Instead of just thinking about doing something kind, you just DID it! Didn't expect anything in return, just wanted to be kind to someone.

    1. Thanks Muffy. Yes, I was excited. But Art's response was so funny, guess he has seen too many cards in his time at the Post Office. Yes, I know we are, seems like Spring will just never get here!
