We've Been Here One Week Already....

I can't believe we have been here one week already.  It seemed like it would never get here and now it is here and one week has gone by.  We were so tired from last week. We went into town on Friday night to get some groceries and eat supper out, too tired to cook. When we went into the restaurant the lady asked us if we were over 60? Too funny! The way we were walking we looked like we were in our 80's.  The car ride over there I stiffened up and my feet hurt so bad on the bottom I was limping, it was a funny moment and she retracted her statement quickly, probably from the look on our faces :)

The weather has turned absolutely gorgeous. I am sitting outside in the swing typing this watching the laundry dry on the line.....

They have washers and dryers here at the campground for us to use, but it was so pretty out and I love the smell of sun dried clothes. We put the towels and jeans in the dryers.

Our little gas grill and my bear decorations complete our picnic table.

Did you know we have headless squirrels in Hardin Ridge?  :)

He had his little head in leaves, hunting for those buried nuts.

Nice little healthy looking one isn't he?  He must have put away alot of nuts last Fall.

Found one!  He sure was busy, we were watching him while eating breakfast ourselves.

Last night we had a nice big campfire. Oh boy did it smell good. What is there about campfire smoke?

I told Art why didn't I wrap some potatoes in foil and he could bake them for me so we would have breakfast in the morning.

So I fried up a few bacon pieces, added some onions and then cubed up my potatoes. After they had browned and warmed up I beat up 6 eggs and added to the mix.  Then I put my bacon pieces back in and that was breakfast.  It really stays with you all the protein and we have enough left for tomorrow morning.

While the potatoes were baking we were sitting outside just relaxing and looking at this gorgeous view.  Cooper on the other hand was wanting to go for a golf cart ride. That boy could ride on there for hours.  He and Effie love it.

This was Friday morning. I was picking up sticks and Art was blowing leaves. The wind was still a bit chilly and if you were riding on the cart you needed a coat or in this case a "dog sweater."

After I had finished picking up the sticks in the campsites and the guys that were blowing leaves were full of gas (their blowers silly) the dogs and I went exploring.  There is a pond on Blue Gill Loop that is so pretty. I was driving around on the cart and this is what I saw.....

This is not loaded upside down, it is the reflection in the pond see....

And look there are fish in there too!

Now in this case the camera didn't add just 10lbs.  This guy was a little bit bigger than a goldfish, but in the picture he looked huge. I don't know fish breeds but I am guessing a little Bluegill??
And while I was sitting here typing this a little Sparrow came into the campsite and walked around looking at us. So stinkin' cute. He picked up part of a nut and and was eating it. He was so tame. He has been on the bird feeder I have up too.

He moved around and looked at me. "Now please get my good side, since I will be seen by many."  He had many good sides but this one is pretty cute.

This little Redheaded Woodpecker must have a home around here. He hangs around all the time. This morning he landed on a tree right outside our window.

Sorry for the glare. I took it out of the window.  We have affectionately named him "Woody." Remember watching Woody the Woodpecker on  Saturday mornings?
Well that has been our first week here in Hoosier National Forest. We are having a blast, meeting new hosts that are coming in and enjoying every minute of this new life style.
So from Hardin Ridge, best wishes and take care everyone.

  1. You have really settled in nicely. All the squirrels and birds must really be excited you've arrived since that increases their food store. Great pictures.

  2. What a cute little sparrow. They used to build nests in my flower pots...so much fun to watch!

Glad you have had a good week. Effie and Cooper are so sweet! Our wire-haired doxie has that same white fur on top of his head. I know I'm suppose to strip it, but it's so cute!

    Have a great week!

Thank you so much, they are so sweet and they are adjusting so well. They are pooped out tonight though. I love Effie's little strip of fur on her head I curl it with my finger all the time.

    1. Thank you Donna. I was very pleased with it but with such a cute subject I guess I couldn't fail. And he was so willing to sit and let me shoot away. I took many but didn't want to post them all. I love the smell of a campfire too. Brings back many memories.

  7. You are so funny Tammy, I'm so glad that you still have your sense of humour.
Nothing taste as good as food cooked outdoors with a little smoke on the side.

Hopefully you will find some time to relax in warmer weather soon.
Keep us updated because your stories are always so fun to read.

I love the great pictures of the little birds but I'm wondering if your two fur babies will get used to the rugged camping like. They looks so privileged and pampered. lol

    Hugs,
    JB

    1. Hi Julia, thank you, gotta have a sense of humor in this life don't we??
I know things will slow down once the park opens. And all the cleaning is done. I'm glad you liked them. He was a cutie for sure. Oh Effie and Cooper have been camping for many many years, they fit right in. But you are right they do get pampered alot.

  14. Love your dogs Tammy. My little rescue dog, Skruffy, is best described as a German Wire Hair Dachshund. Well, when I rescued her back in 2009 the Vet said she had a lot of Dachshund in her, and who knows what else. So I did a Google Image Search and found she looks a lot like a few of the German Wire Hair Dachshunds on there. Skruffy is a great dog, and loves me to death, and she loves my wife of two years now too, but there was some jealousy issues there for awhile...and still has them about Bubba, the dog my wife brought into the marriage....

    1. Why thank you Dave. The wire hair dachshunds have the best personalities we think. This is our second one and the other one was a male and the exact same way. Loved everyone and so placid and easy going. Well of course there was you brought in another woman LOL :)
Maybe one day Bubba and Skruffy will be best friends.
      Thanks for the comments.
