Let's Talk Trash.....

Well we did it we went from winter to summer all in two days.  We had coats on this past weekend and today people were beet red from the heat. It was 81 in the trailer with the windows open so imagine what it was outside.  HOT!  They were blowing leaves and sweating, I was picking up sticks and trash and sweating.  Now since I mentioned "trash" lets talk. I am going to refrain myself here from saying what I want to but I will say this, I don't know who raised these people who do these things?   I picked up '5', five gallon buckets of trash today. Want to know what I picked up?  Glad you do because here goes:
man's underwear, aluminum foil, beer cans, beer bottles, batteries, bottle caps, a ladies hair band, 2 oil lamps, Styrofoam containers, crate paper, windshield wiper, spoons, bailing twine, man's handkerchief, plastic grocery bags, cardboard boxes, and paper towel by the roll!  And my personal favorite, a bag of rotten sweet potatoes. Plus, they broke off one of the post that marks the site and tossed it down into the woods.  I guess that wasn't enough excitement for them as they did this too......

Can you see it right in the middle of the photo?  A picnic table, thrown over this really steep hill and down into a deep raven.  It landed on the tree or it would have kept going.

We worked so hard little Effie had to come home and take a nap in the sun.  Such a life, wouldn't you like to have her life?  They ride around on the golf cart and watch us "work."

This gorgeous Magnolia Tree sits behind the office. I have never been able to take a picture of these flowers before. They remind me of Orchids. So pretty but they don't last long.

It won't be long until the Redbuds will be out, I love those trees can't wait to get pictures of them.  There are little flowers coming up everywhere. After the high temperatures today I'm sure the trees will have little leaves by this weekend. But wait the high on Friday is only supposed to be 48, so back out comes the coats. :(

This Turkey Vulture was sitting in the tree waiting for one of us to fall over today. Ha ha....we all made it!

I don't know if the park is going to open this weekend or not. Depends if we get all the loops ready I guess. It is supposed to rain tomorrow so that will slow us down if it does.
What with the high temperatures and the cold weather coming in will probably get some severe storms.

This little guy heard there may be rain so he was hurrying up and gathering his nuts, just in case he can't get out of his tree for a few days.

We went for a long drive tonight on the golf cart to look for wildlife. Yep they were every where, just not where we were. Three different times we have seen the hen turkey but I have not had my camera, we have been to busy for me to take it with me all the time.  But while we were driving on the far end of our loop we saw this...

See the lake. This past weekend we could hear the big speed boats out there having fun.  I didn't realize we could see the lake so well from our loop this year. I will have to go down to the beach and get a really good sunset without the trees.

I feel really bad that I have not been keeping up reading all the blogs I used to.  I try and read and comment when I can, but with all this work and trying to do my own blog I don't seem to have enough time.  Once the park opens and all the clean up is over with I hope to have more time to read again. I try and read a few each night but sometimes I just can't stay awake to do so, and trying to type a comment well I end up with so many mistakes it takes me a while to do one. But just know I have not forgotten any of you.

So from Hardin Ridge in Hoosier National Forest best wishes and take care everyone.

  1. Tammy, do not beat yourself up because you don't read all our blogs or comment on them. We all have times when we are way too busy with our own lives to keep up with everyone else. We know you care.

Such slobs make me so angry. And vandalism is so senseless.

That picture of Effie is beyond cute. They do love that sunshine don't they.

    1. Thank you I appreciate that. I do miss reading everyone's blogs just can't seem to get it all done.
      Yes, I do!
Sure does make you angry, and to think if they had to pick all that up what anger you would see then.
Yes, Effie loves her sunshine and she loves her chair, I forgot to put that in the blog that this is her chair.

    2. Tammy, just found your blog by way of the Hardin Ridge website, I like what I'm reading! I was hurt at work, working for the State, and now I'm not. I saved up what little disability & retirement annuity money I have so I have an RV to live in, and wonder how you do this. I'm not sure if I can get lucky & get an RV site there. Too many questions to ask here... perhaps you can email me. I can be reached at hqindmilcorps@lavabit.com

  2. Was all this mess and vandalism left over from campers last season? Seems like a clean-up at the end of the season might have allowed it to be tracked back to the last campers. Of course, it might have happened over the winter too if people could get in. Definitely a bad thing especially when budget cuts are everywhere. People need to help take care of things.

    1. Hi Colleen, all this happened on the loop that is open all winter. It is obviously primitive campers. They can camp for $5 a night. I don't understand why people enjoy camping out in an environment that is so beautiful just to trash it for others. And you are right what with all the budget cuts there is no more money for new picnic tables, etc.

  3. I agree with Sandie - you have a life outside of blogging and we all understand. Don't worry about replying to my comment either - that's just more for you to do LOL!! I sure agree with you about the slobs that litter - it's one of my hot buttons. But I guess you can't change some people. Love that last picture of the magnolia blossom. They are so pretty.

    1. That you Donna, I love to reply back that is one thing I enjoy the most. It makes all this blogging seem so personal, and that we are communicating back and forth. Litter is such an eye sore, just ruins it for everyone. Thank you, aren't they so pretty, wish they would last longer.

  4. I can't believe ... well, yes, I can... just blows me away with the people who have absolutely zero zip nada respect for the very beauty they want to 'get away' to. disgusting.

Tammy? if that's a Magnolia tree? I'm a rotten sweet potato ~ ew... maybe it's a midwest Magnolia... southern Magnolias are huge big ol white blossoms. huge dark green glossy leaves ...

I call those beautiful trees... Tulip trees. we have one in our yard... I know there is another name but CRS

and yes we've been around about this stressful need to comment and read ... guess it was on my blog, we did this? whatever.... just keep posting ... we'll read ;)

    1. Hi Carolyn, no people don't have much respect for other and why they this where they camp is beyond me.

That is a Saucer Magnolia. There are many different types of Magnolias. So you must see a different one.

Yes, we did on your blog but others didn't see my comment to you. Wanted others that I read to see my thoughts too. I hope too...take care.

  5. Same phenomenon her on the island. When we come home we go around and pic trash from the ditches. Other summer residents do the same. All summer long. It seems that some people living here all year round don't care at all how it looks like around them. It is "their" island and they like it as it is.... and they keep it coming.
Some roads are worse than others. Even the one where the mayor lives looks like trash. That says it all to me. Very sad.

    1. That is very sad you would think people would appreciate living in a clean and beautiful island. I guess some people don't care and those of us that do end up doing all the work. Thanks for the comment.

  6. What beautiful pictures of the magnolia.

I know what you mean about trash. Two of my personal favorites are fishing line (grrr) and cigarette butts!

    1. Thank you Karen, I was trying to edit it and was having fun doing some different things.

We picked up over 250 cigarette butts in 2 campsites last year. And I know fishing line is so harmful to animals and can kill or injure for life. Sad!

    Beautiful magnolia blooms!

Sure wish Effie and Jack could have a play day! She is so cute to me!

    1. Thank you I haven't taken many flower pictures so had fun editing this one. Yes, good thing some of us don't mind (well I do) picking up trash.

Thanks she is a doll baby for sure. Best personality. Jack just reminds me so much of our first wire hair, Herbie. I'll bet they would love to play.

  10. Hi Tammy, from winter directly to summer, that what I said that was going to happen this year. We were having a bit of snow yesterday morning and it turned to rain.

I have difficulty understanding why people leave their trash around like that for someone else to pick up in a beautiful nature park. It's just common sense to pick up one's own trash. I can only imagine what it would look like if there were nobody like you to pick up after them. You have every right to feel upset. It's just not right and it would make my blood boil too.

Don't worry dear Tammy about leaving comments on my blog. I understand all too well how busy life has been for you. Don't get stress about it. I don't blog that oftyen anyway, ha,ha,ha.
    Enjoy your beautiful spot.
    Hugs,
    JB

    1. Hi Julia, From winter to summer and now back to winter. We are freezing here again. Down in the 30's. Don't think it will last. I will get around to reading and commenting when I can. I love to read your blog and many others.
The trash is all picked up and ready for new campers to come in. I just hope these have better manners :)

  11. I think Effie is the cutest pup ever! As for posting and responding, then commenting, and even the energy to think of the right wording takes a lot of energy. Right now still doing the 9-5, I have that extra time as I try to escape in my dreams...getting on the road soon though so probably not so much so! You go enjoy yourself....all that hard work...down time should be behind your camera! Just reading about your adventure is good enough for me! As for the trash...pity isn't it!

    1. Thank you, I will tell her you said so! I love to read blogs and comment it is just now I am having hard finding the time. Things will slow down here though now that the park is open.
Thanks we are going to be soon I hope.

  12. Those pink blooms are soooo pretty! We got a cold front! Brrr, I could not believe it. From 82 to 50 in a really short time. But it's better for the dogs, it got hot in the RV today too, till that front came through.

I'm so far behind on blog reading that folks probably think I've fallen off the earth & don't care about them. Seems this time of night, I try, but like you, I get too tired & have to go to bed.

But it's not like we can't go back on our favs later!
Sick of folks to trash like that. Ha, if they ever have to BUY a picnic table, I'm sure that would change their minds!

    1. Hi Cyn, We are now back into a cold front too. Brrrr....down in the 30's last night. Effie and Cooper freeze they don't have very long fur.
Me too, I am trying to catch up slowly, I guess better late than never. :)
I just wish they could catch people doing the vandalism so they can be punished. Yes, I agree I think it would make them think before they do it again.

  14. Great photos! And yes, there are a lot of dumb slobs in the world. I'm sorry you have to clean up after them. Don't worry about falling behind on blog reading. I seem to skip preparing my own blog, or reading other peoples' blogs. But I always catch up, you will, too, when you have time. :)
