Ok, this is a job, no matter how you do it. We have been working a little at a time, doing one room at a time, however, now we are getting down to a couple of weeks and we need to get it done. This is what our built in shelves look like....empty.

Today we started taking things out into our screened in front porch, to set outside tomorrow to sell. I remembered a friend of ours who said the next time we had a yard sale to call her so I did. She brought another lady with her and between the two of them bought almost everything that was out there. One of them has a booth at a flea market and so she was taking a lot of it there. I didn't care, we got rid of things, made some money and one day closer to being done.
I wanted to explain something before I go on. Yesterday a couple of people said they were envious that we didn't have to sell our house. Maybe I didn't explain it well enough before but we do have to sell it. The arrangement is that Dan and Hannah will live here for one year. They will pay certain bills and we will split a couple of bills, then after a year they will either decide to buy this house or move, then at that time if they don't want it we will be putting it on the market. The things that are here that they are storing for us, we will be able to store either at their new house or at our other daughter's home. The one big advantage is we don't have to "wait" to sell it before we leave. Maybe that is what some of you are talking about. And the other big advantage is we don't have to come back and go through things if we do have to put it on the market. It will be pretty much be ready to go, with a few items needed to be moved out. We need the money that the sell of the house would give us. We hope to put most of it in a CD to have in case we need to buy something else if we want to come off the road. And some of it will go on bills. We felt we could do one year fine without it and thus help out Dan and Hannah. I hope this clears up any confusion. I know that there are others that are doing the same thing we are. I am reading their blogs and we are relating to what we all are going through.

This TV cabinet is going down by the road tomorrow morning. OK no comments on the dust :) I will dust it before we try and sell it.

This is common through out the house, sacks hanging around with items for Lindsay to go through or taken out to the RV. Saves us from running back and forth all day. Funny how this all begins to get on your nerves.
Just your home being disrupted I guess kind of gets to you.

And don't even think of trying to sit in some of the chairs, there is "stuff" already there. In this case, DVDs that are going to the RV.
This is a box of other items for Lindsay and Hannah to go through, then
what is left will get taken to Good Will. We are almost out of items to
go through so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Just have the
kitchen left and that will be it.

Tammy, you have done so much! You are almost there! I know you are excited and sad at the same time.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a mix of emotions. I know once we leave and get on the road and get to our camp site we will be fine. It is just leaving Hannah and our home of 19 yrs. But it is something we truly know we want to do, so we will be so happy.
DeleteThere is a lot of stuff in the kitchen. Hopefully you have been thinking about what you will want to take in the RV. Don't leave your crockpot behind. You are almost there. Once you are done with the house, you will still have the wedding so that will take your mind off things until you are ready to actually hit the road.

Thank you Karen, we are and maybe a little ahead. Next week is booked solid with all the wedding showers, dress fittings etc, so we knew we had to get going.

Way to go Tammy. You are almost finished. How come we gather so much stuff over the years?
ReplyDeleteI remember how quick our first move was when we had just the necessary stuff and the four kids were young. I had all the boxes packed and labeled and in which rooms they went weeks ahead so the move was made quickly.
Now we have so much stuff it would be a big nightmare to move and I want to return to just the basic and try to simplify my lifestyle but it's hard to get rid of stuff. I have so many hobbies that takes lot of room and my husband saves everything...

Hi Julia, I sure don't know but I sure wish I knew then what I know now. Christmases would be smaller and so would birthdays etc. The money that we have spent is ridiculous to us now. But hind sight is 20/20. I have not had much trouble getting rid of things. The items with the most memories and are all wrapped and packed for storage. That helps a lot, mentally.
DeleteYou give me some hope. But you will probably be on the road for a year before our light is visable.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Merikay. We are very lucky we know to be able to so early. And since we had been planning on full timing for so long that helped to speed it up. Maybe you can take some more trips and that will help and give you a break from working on the house.

ReplyDeleteYes, doing it slowly does help, but it has seemed to be drug out some too. There are some things you just can't get done until the last minute so we knew we needed to get the things done that we could. I remember looking at pictures of your apartment and how it looks like our house now. You give us hope!
DeleteIf you don't do too well today because of the thunderstorms, and decided to try again you could always go by a flea market if you have on in your area and leave some flyers or tell someone. Good Luck...
